Accounting Technician

The candidate is relied upon and responsible for preparing extensive and detailed financial reports for Major/Minor GASCA projects, Revenue generation, NRM, Station Level projects, etc., which requires knowledge of multiple account relationships. Candidate is responsible for twenty-eight (28) primary and eleven (11) secondary fund control points (and associated accounts/sub accounts) for the projects ranging from the thousands to millions. Approximately one-fifth of all the documents obligated in Fiscal Service originate from Engineering Service. The candidate is considered an expert in the environment and is relied upon for consultation and often times training of others, (i.e., team leaders, supervisors and contractors). The accounts are complex and unique, thus requiring incumbent to apply advanced accounting practices and procedures. Incumbent prepares, receives, analyzes and records purchase requests pertaining to construction or engineering program accounts using accurate sub accounts within expenditures related to contracts and other Engineering programs/funds control points (FCPs) Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience may include but involve initiation, set-up and maintenance of a wide and intricate variety of project/construction cost accounts and ledgers. Sophisticated principles of accounting are applied in the making of entries and reconciliations for accuracy and the appropriate monitoring of the funds for each project/program. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
