Medical Technician

Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
Performing routine venipuncture specimen collections from inpatients, outpatients and ambulatory inpatients. Performing phlebotomy using approved methodologies for sample collection, including properly identifying patients. Collecting specimens in the appropriate container, maintaining specimens under the appropriate conditions, and following guidelines for collecting timed specimens to ensure specimen viability. Preparing specimens for analysis, insuring that the physiological state of the specimen is maintained. Preparing samples for the reference laboratory. Instructing patients in the collection of urine for drug screens, including processing the specimen and paperwork appropriately. Receiving and sorting specimens. Performing sterilization on the autoclave, assisting in the treatment and control of spills in various areas following established medical center procedures. Performing other related duties as assigned Work Schedule:

Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Experience:
Possess six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience at the next lower grade level to fully qualify for this position. NOTE TO APPLICANTS:
General experience is experience performing any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience (which should be documented on your resume) is:
technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking); preparing reports of findings; and technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
Successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the second year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; or 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; or 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that is directly related to the specialization of this position. OR COMBINATION:
Possess equivalent combinations of specialized experience and education as described above. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
